Strawberry Fields Make Shortcake

Thank you for sharing!

Strawberry fields forever… nah… my strawberry fields make shortcake!

The wisteria that I planted is BAD invasive.  These strawberries are GOOD invasive!  Last year, they were only a few berry plants.  Now… HELLO strawberry goodness!!!!

I had no idea they would flourish so much this year.  I need to figure out a way to have them grow like this, off the ground.  The ones in the middle of the garden settle onto the ground and aren’t as nice.  It’s always a learning process.

I spy two berries waiting to be picked.   Fresh berries out of the garden have a taste like no other.  It is insane how good and sweet they are.

Let’s make some strawberry shortcake with these fresh strawberries, shall we?

This is my quick, easy, and “healthier” version of the strawberry shortcake.

Bake a package of Pillsbury Grands, Jr.  Add strawberry preserves, strawberries, and whipped cream.  It has a lot less sugar, isn’t as sweet, but it really makes the strawberry flavor shine.

The berries in the garden are just starting to ripen, so I mixed my berries with store bought for this special treat.

No doubt about it…strawberry shortcake is my favorite strawberry dessert!!! I made it for Memorial Day using homemade 5-flavor pound cake. I now have 5-flavor 5 new pounds on my hips! :-)

Hooray for your strawberry patch! My Dad had a method to keep those strawberries that grow closer to the ground from going bad. I wish I would have paid attention to what it was so that I could share it. He always had loads of luscious, juicy strawberries. My Mom just recently had the strawberry patch – which ran the entire length of the patio – removed, and it made me very sad. Daddy maintained that patch for more than 30 years.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Alycia – OH no so sad about the strawberry patch that was such a legacy in your family and brought so many memories. I never thought of it that way, but hopefully Stepson will be looking back on my strawberries the same way many years from now. The taste from the garden is soooo different than the store. Hugs, Holly

My family loves strawberries so much, I’d never have any to use for the short case. I’m so envious of your beautiful strawberry heaven.

Hi Susan – I was really surprised at how the 4-5 strawberries we planted last year just exploded. I hate having to contain them, I wish the garden would grow fresh strawberries all year long. Hugs, Holly

  3. Sue

I am always buying strawberries and it would make sense to home grow them!!

    1. Holly

They were a lot easier to grow than I thought. You can also grow them in containers. Just don’t let the birds or squirrels eat them. Hugs, Holly
