Resurgence of the Bar Cart

Thank you for sharing!

Have you seen this month’s issue of House Beautiful – one entire page dedicated to the resurgence of the bar cart.  Maybe it’s the Mid-Century Modern trend and/or Mad Men mania, but bar carts are back in the main stream and I’m crushing just a little bit on them!

I asked my dear friend and Interior Designer, Nkem of JNO Designs, to provide some more insight for you.  Welcome back, Nkem, I’m so glad to have you here today!

In recent months on my travel expeditions to various unique design and home decor showrooms, I have come across the interesting resurgence of the bar cart. Yes – the Bar Cart! I can vividly remember in my early childhood having seen the bar cart proudly displayed in relative’s homes as the ultimate showcase of who’s who in spirits.  The aroma and exotic shapes of these various alcohol and wine bottles still very much ingrained. Interestingly enough, I have always thought the bar cart was a cool display of show and tell of fabulous substance of wine and liquor bottles. Not only does it function as utilitarian and mobile equipment, but provides as an added value in aesthetic to home décor and design.

You can view some of these beautiful display of the resurgence of the bar cart on the following sites:

If you love the look of the bar cart, but don’t want to spend the money, you can go the DIY route like I did with this TV stand to bar cart transformation.

I love the mid-century vibe of bar carts.

Hi Susan – I love MCM everything. I was born in the wrong decade. Hugs, Holly

I have a bar cart that my Mom bought back in 1958 (the year I was born), I think. She was going to deep-six it some years ago, but I rescued it before it met its fate curbside for trash pickup. I feature the cart in many of my dining room tablescapes. I repainted the metal part years ago, but it’s due for a change to update it. I had new glass put in it years ago, too, but have toyed with the idea of getting thicker cut pieces installed so that the cart can hold more heavy Costco gallon bottles of spirits. (That’s my gentle way of explaining the blatant alcoholism that apparently resides here! :-) ) I am SO glad I didn’t let her get rid of that bar cart because as you said, it is making a comeback in a big, big way! It has always been a convenient fixture in our home, so I guess I was just a little ahead of the fad!

Fun post! Thanks to you and to Nkem!
